Work for The Battalion

Staff positions at The Battalion student newspaper are available to any current Texas A&M student, and no experience is required. All staffers build portfolios through published works, and have the opportunity to be paid as a senior reporter, photographer, or producer, following a training period. Staffers are expected to find topics of interest throughout campus and the Bryan-College Station community, learn AP Style through editor instruction and contribute meaningful content to the print and/or digital platform.

Following a semester of experience, staffers can apply for editor positions, which come with a monthly stipend. Editors are still able to produce content, and are responsible for enforcing deadlines, editing content, leading section staff and furthering The Battalion as a print and online publication.

Useful Skills and Professional Opportunities

Working at The Battalion gives students the opportunity to not only improve writing, photography or design skills, but also practice interpersonal communication and be regularly published in an 130-year-old award-winning publication.

Former staffers have gone on to work with The Bryan-College Station Eagle, The San Antonio Express-News, The Dallas Morning News, The Houston Chronicle, The Texas Tribune, Sports Illustrated, Time Magazine, The New York Times and ESPN among other national and local publications. Outside of journalism, former staff have found success in a variety of fields, including: marketing, education, law, engineering, politics and finance.
