Outgoing University President R. Bowen Loftin was named the 22nd chancellor of the University of Missouri on Thursday morning — the result of a nationwide search by the University of Missouri that began in November.
The announcement was made at a ceremony in which Loftin addressed the University of Missouri community.
“Karen and I are so happy to merge here as part of your family,” Loftin said. “We look forward to meeting all of you over time and truly embracing this wonderful university, this wonderful city in which you rest, this great state and to make the difference we can make here with your help.”
Loftin will begin serving as chancellor on Feb. 1, 2014. He will replace the previous chancellor to the university, Brady Deaton, who retired Nov. 15.
I think it’s tremendous to have Aggies in key leadership positions,” said student body president Reid Joseph. “I think he’ll do tremendously at the university.”
