A&M should focus on merit
In response Bunmi Ishola's Sept. 29 article, "Research shows A&M still low on black enrollment:"
Issue date: 9/30/05 Section: Mail Call
I hope the day will come soon when state sponsored schools will not use race as a pedestal for enrollment. Why not admit people based on criteria they have control over, like merit, grades and service?
Using A&M's logic that race matters, making the environment friendlier for blacks is simultaneously making it less welcoming for whites. Would it not make more sense to have a school focus on academics and not spend all of its time being apologetic for the institution of slavery that ended 140 years ago.
