On Oct. 24, Raymond and Vanessa Jackson of New Jersey were arrested for child abuse after a neighbor found one of their adopted children scrounging for food in trash cans in the middle of the night two weeks before. The boy, Bruce Jackson, 19, was only 4 feet tall and weighed 45 pounds.

Many abortion rights activists feel that 2004 may be the last opportunity Americans have to repel the vicious attack on women's health choices by the radical religious right.
