Few students know what started Elephant Walk or what it is intended to symbolize. Those who do are aware that the appropriate time for Elephant Walk is prior to the last home football game at Kyle Field. That's right, prior to the last home football game (not two weeks later).

The fact of the matter is that Bonfire was important to many people. Although based on an "over-hyped rivalry," it had become something else to a large portion of the students and alumni. To them, it was a way to meet people, interact and work toward a common goal.

Mail Call - Tax dollars should not fund religion in any form

In response to Adam Scharn's Nov. 22 column:
Scharn claims the Framers' sole intent for the establishment clause was to prevent an official state church. Yet, not even two paragraphs later, he acknowledges Jefferson's letter to the Danbury Baptists as the basis of the "separation" interpretation. While calling it unofficial, he also falsely claims that this is the only appearance of the separation doctrine, when it in fact also appears in more explicit form in the (quite official) Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom, authored by Jefferson.

Dear Student Body: I just wanted to thank you for your fantastic support at our season opener last Friday. Our players were excited by your presence and fed off your energy and enthusiasm. It was a heck of a fun time. We want to build on that and make Reed Arena a place our opponents will fear.
