The Arkansas Razorbacks are pursuing different candidates for the head coaching position on the men's basketball team after failing to sway Texas A&M head coach Billy Gillispie away from A&M, reported the Arkansas Democrat Gazette.
The paper cites that Gillispie never talked with Arkansas Athletic Director Frank Boyles, despite Boyles' attempt to contact Gillispie. According to the Democrat Gazette, the Razorbacks didn't make a job offer.
Gillispie's current contract guarantees $1.2 million plus bonuses through 2012, with a $1 million bonus if he stays the full time. The Texas A&M board of Regents will meet Friday to vote on a proposed contract extension offer.
Gillispie was in Atlanta, Ga., Thursday night for the Slam Dunk and Three Point Championship, watching Aggie players Acie Law IV and Marlon Pompey compete. In an on-air interview with ESPN, Gillispie said that A&M Athletic Director Bill Byrne has been straight forward with him during his time at A&M. Gillispie also commented on how well he has been treated in College Station. Gillispie has a 70-16 record since taking over as head coach in 2004-2005.
