The Gender Issues Education Center is having a week of events to celebrate National Coming Out Day, Oct. 11.

Jennifer Cross, information technology associate and member of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Professional Network, said that the National Coming Out Day events are week-long, because it can be difficult for students to announce their sexuality.

The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Aggies meets bi-weekly and discusses various topics in the gay community.

"[The GLBTA] provides support for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students from the university and surrounding communities, and creates opportunities for a safe and supportive environment," said Laura Tintera, senior English major and president of GLBTA. "I joined because I wanted to be a part of strengthening the organization's mission statement and involvement on campus."

"We are organizations that welcome all individuals interested in building and being a part of a strong GLBT community at Texas A&M and in the Brazos Valley," Kane said.
