Info Fest to explain SCS sevices

Texas A&M's Student Counseling Services (SCS) will showcase the second annual Brown Bag Information Fest. The program is designed to present information on the challenges many first-generation college students face.

Several of the counselors will present information on the SCS academic and career services that they provide to help with these challenges.

The SCS offers short-term counseling and crisis intervention services to students while promoting awareness, respect and valuing of cultural differences. It offers academic, personal and professional counseling.

While the SCS provides workshops for stress management and test anxiety, study success strategies and time management, the event is meant for first generation college students in need of guidance.

Ashley Porter, a senior agricultural education major, said she has never used the SCS but is glad it is available.

"Though I've never used the counseling services it gives me a sense of security knowing that they are there for me if I should ever need them," Porter said.

Katherine Grimnes, a junior accounting major, said she has found the SCS to be helpful.

"I believe that the SCS offers great opportunities for students to improve and learn about many difficulties all types of students face. I feel from my experiences they have really helped me with my personal challenges that I have faced," Grimnes said.

The Brown Bag Information Fest will be noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday in Cain Hall, room E-111.
