EDITORIAL: Establishing leadership is Murano's job

Dean Bresciani, vice president for student affairs, is gone but not forgotten. That was obvious Tuesday after monitoring comments on thebatt.com. What was also obvious Tuesday was that some people will use any decision made by President Elsa Murano as an excuse to throw out ethnic and sexist slurs. Again, obvious after looking at online comments.

Bresciani was one of the hardest workers on campus. At every student leader function I attended, he was there - cordial and on top of everything. As a young journalist who needs to find students all the time, I've found that Student Life is one of the most organized and focused staff s on campus. Bresciani deserves credit for that.

An e-mail sent out by Murano on Tuesday stated that she will find a replacement by the start of the fall semester. She probably already knows who will spell Bresciani in the fall and his departure does not appear to be a kneejerk decision.

Organizational changes happen whenever a new leader assumes control. Changes are always made. I'd rather have a president willing to make changes if they increase the efficiency of his or her work. Murano is responsible for everything here, and if she needs to get her own players on the field to get things done, so be it. Bob Gates didn't back down from his critics when he started shaking things up. As president, he didn't turn out so bad.

Aggies hate change. Get over it. Wait and see what she can do. Stow the whining until then.
