Changes on the way
Abstract:
With concerns about global warming and the impact humans have on the climate, the faculty of the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at Texas A&M has unanimously endorsed the recent reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)....

Ok, this is one of those situations where we can't wait for the evidence that humans are causing/strongly influencing global warming to be irrefutable before attempting to do something. If we just keep putting it off and then do an, "Oh crap, those environmental whackos were right." we will not be able to do anything or if we are able to reverse course it will have to be so extreme it will create as much or more chaos as the climate change. However, if we take a "conservative", prudent path now by gradually eliminating humans input and "those environmental whackos." are wrong, then we at least end up with renewable energy resources and clean swimming holes. Even if the irrefutable evidence that humans had no effect on global warming is discovered a 100 years from now (and we don't die off as a species); we will have improved the world for our own & future generations. The alternative is the knowledge we committed suicide or at least failed miserably in our God given stewardship of the earth. So not doing anything is completely irresponsible and is not living up to our American ideas & ideals.

Don ! YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY CORRECT !! The department has not done their homework...or they are afraid to speak out against what has been popularized and thus losing countless dollars in future government funds. Believe me, the University would see all kinds of government funds disappear if they went against the grain on this issue...it is currently one of the largest internationally financed efforts on the environment going. There are ulterior reasons for this international attention.
There is more...A MUST SEE FILM:
"The Great Global Warming Swindle" is a controversial documentary film by British television producer Martin Durkin, which argues against the scientific opinion that human activity is the main cause of global warming.

But don't stop there. Many researchers and well-known scientists have spoken out against this charade because the facts are just not there. In fact, some of the scientists who first presented the hypothesis of manmade global warming decades ago (when it was against the grain), now are saying, after decades of research, that it is not manmade.
[This is not to say that we are trashing the planet and that we rely on fossil fuels too much...no, this is not the issue. We are polluting the hell out of this planet. However, we are not causing global warming.]

You guys couldn't be more wrong. While top scientists, experts, from all over the world continue to realize the reality and the gravity of this problem, you morons continue to give idiot politicians here an excuse to not do anything about it. As the article said, they're politicians, NOT SCIENTISTS. I have no idea why the environment and the future of the planet is even a political issue. It's a human race issue. The only way it can't matter to you is if you're not a human.

Let me correct something.
The "manmade Global Warming" has become a huge international political issue. This is actually by design. Research The World Bank, World Trade Organization, International Monetary Fund, Bilderberg, Rothchild, Rockefeller, etc. [Read my post above about the Federal Reserve Bank.] There is more to the agenda than "an idea to curb greenhouse gases from cars."
I am an Environmental Science major. This hype on Global Warming already is worth billions in government monies. This is a BOOMING MONEY area! Do some research on the dollars being spent!
The amount of funds spent internationally is extraordinary!...with INTERNATIONAL standards being put in place which threaten sovereignty of nations. This is a step, by design, to impose more international regulations on all countries as a plan for a New World Order (per the quote of G H Bush). Already, CODEX (part of the World Trade Org) is set to impose limits on vitamins in America...where they will need a prescription. There is international crap that is going on. This "manmade global warming" scenario is a scare tactic to impose more international codes.
Political and corporate and military corruption. We are in that age.
Just do some Google research about some of this international crap.

Don and Tom,
I couldn't agree with you more. It is all about getting those almighty research dollars and federal grants. They are willing to sell their soles to the devil in order to keep the federal gravy train rolling. I am not conviced that we are sole cause of climate change. In fact, such a presumption is quite arrogant for to make. Cool! Thanks A. Brannon Kroll!
You really hit the nail on the head: "It is about getting those almighty research dollars and federal grants."
We know that if a few professors were vocal and made statements that went against this man-made global warming hype, those professors would soon be looking for another job. It is not safe at our university to speak out against what is popularized.
Many other Scientists have done it, and thus lost their rank and file amongst peers.

It should also be noted for those that are backlashing our comments: Just because global warming IS NOT MANMADE, does not mean that we, as the human species should not make healthier changes.
Our environment is a mess.
We should better conditions.
I am an Environmental Science Major.
However, again, this public stance by the department is more designed to help receive funds.

When is the last time you heard a scientist say they were certain about anything? They don't! Scientists come up with the best explanation they can given everything they know and always leave room to reevaluate their position in the future. And do you really think that acknowledging the existence of global warming is the way to gain the favor of the seriously-in-denial Bush administration? Republicans would love to have scientists refuting the existence of global warming, because it would help the industries that gave them the money to get where they are.

Jordan, please read one of my posts about the International Monetary Fund, World Bank, etc. Just so you know: the two party system (Republican / Democrat) is a sham. It is a charade. It is a intentional distraction for several purposes, one of which is to keep out a third party which might bring some ethics into our government. The true international agendas do not change with the parties. The owners of our own Federal Reserve Bank have more to say about who is elected and agendas, than any of the two parties.

Global Warming is not manmade.
Here is data from well-known scientists:
A MUST SEE FILM:
"The Great Global Warming Swindle" is a controversial documentary film by British television producer Martin Durkin, which argues against the scientific opinion that human activity is the main cause of global warming.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3028847519933351566

Dr. Claude Allegre is a world renowned scientist from France. . He ranks as a pioneer on environmental issues, authoring publications and pushing for environmental changes on a number of fronts prior to these issues becoming a "popular view". Landmarks of his include the ozone layer and CFCs, and also the lead pollution hazards.
Here is the clincher: Twenty years ago he was warning the world that mankind is raising the global temperature through its burning of fossil fuels. He pushed this issue hard. Now, he has a turn-about position.
Allegre says that with the wealth of data that has since been obtained, that global warming is probably a natural phenomena...that global warming is not manmade. Another complaint he has is the fact that internationally billions are being spent along with all types of political conferences, but that no effective changes are being made. He definitely and adamantly agrees that man should focus on other methods of energy, but refuses to continue to blame global warming on burning hydrocarbons. This position has cost him rank and file among his peers.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Global warming extends to Mars, where the polar ice cap is shrinking, where deep gullies in the landscape are now laid bare, and where the climate is the warmest it has been in decades or centuries.
Dr. Habibullo Abdussamatov states:
"Mars has global warming, but without a greenhouse and without the participation of Martians," he told me. "These parallel global warmings -- observed simultaneously on Mars and on Earth -- can only be a straightline consequence of the effect of the one same factor: a long-time change in solar irradiance."
The sun's increased irradiance over the last century, not C02 emissions, is responsible for the global warming we're seeing, says the celebrated scientist, and this solar irradiance also explains the great volume of C02 emissions.
"It is no secret that increased solar irradiance warms Earth's oceans, which then triggers the emission of large amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. So the common view that man's industrial activity is a deciding factor in global warming has emerged from a misinterpretation of cause and effect relations."
Solar irradiance has begun to fall, ushering in a protracted cooling period beginning in 2012 to 2015. The depth of the decline in solar irradiance reaching Earth will occur around 2040, and "will inevitably lead to a deep freeze around 2055-60" lasting some 50 years, after which temperatures will go up again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dr Edward Wegman, chair of the National Academy of Sciences' Committee on Applied and Theoretical Statistics, became involved in the global-warming debate after the energy and commerce committee of the U.S. House of Representatives asked him to assess one of the hottest debates in the global-warming controversy. Wegman found many errors in the predictions made by Scientists who beat the drum that global warming is man-made.
Wegman believes that much of the climate science that has been done should be taken with a grain of salt -- although the studies may have been peer reviewed, the reviewers were often unqualified in statistics. Past studies, he believes, should be reassessed by competent statisticians and in future, the climate science world should do better at incorporating statistical know-how.

It is truly bizarre that so many people are so ready to believe in a conspiracy theory involving THE ENTIRE DEPARTMENT here at A&M. Essentially the argument (displayed by the commenters above) is that we cannot trust the very people who are charged with studying this problem scientifically, that is, we should not listen to climate scientists. Moreover, it is alleged, climate scientists cannot possibly know what they are talking about because, hey, look at all of this scientific data!
The problems with this argument should be self-evident, but apparently are not, and so they bear expression.
The first problem is that even if, say, 10% of climate scientists (rather than the consensus that exists) express fears that we are killing our habitat, then we are ethically obligated to take action.
The second problem is that of credibility. It is FAR MORE LIKELY that the scientific community does in fact believe in these statements regarding global climate change than that there is a vast conspiracy among those who study climate change to lie, cheat, tamper with evidence, suppress information and repress researchers for, it would seem, no discernible reason at all. A conspiracy is fantastic and very sexy, but should be impossible to believe.
A third and major problem is that of who to believe. We have set up (as a country, as a society) organizations (American Meteorological Society, American Geophysical Union, National Academy of Science, etc.) whose very purpose is to advise us on technical scientific issues. They are not political organizations, but scientific societies. It is simply wrongheaded for us to now dispose of their opinion in favor of whichever politician seems most convincing. It DOES NOT MATTER how many scientific studies we think we can cite, the fact of the matter is that we, as nonscientists in the field, are not qualified to make judgments about these studies, which is why these societies exist. We should let scientists decide whether or not global warming is happening and is a problem. And they have, overwhelmingly.
But why have an argument about global warming at all? Those who oppose the remedies suggested by those concerned about global warming are not in favor of curbing pollution. But EVEN IF YOU DISBELIEVE in global warming, how can you be in favor of pollution? Shouldn't we all be against polluting the environment regardless of how we feel about this issue? What motivates people to be so vehemently against the belief that global warming exists? I do not understand.

Oh and one more thing, at this point we have a problem that needs a solution not mindless ideology. Even if it is a completely natural phenomenon, we still need to spend money on dealing with the chaos it will create. We can do this by trying to bring everyone on board or batten the hatches and let those without the resources succumb to it. The second option is would be the best for the earth, since it would be able to cleanse itself but it would diminish the customer base for our business. However, since we have some time to overcome the challenge, we may not have to consider the second option, if we start now.
