You all forgot the most important location the corps dorms #2 thru #12 built in 1939 and it still looks like 1939 as always. That is the year when the football team won the national championship. As I stated before in all my weekly comments. I live in Sugar Land, tx and every morning going to work(yes still working at Mustang Engr where there are about 300 aggies employed ) on grand parkway 99 I pass by the sugar land prison farm I believe they were built in 1995. I give you three guesses what they remind me of, you guessed it the corp dorms the only difference is barb wire. I made this comments to Dr Gates our famous president who skipped out on us which I knew he would, no aggies would agree with me. This was a Bush (old man) game plan with Dr Gates you know they were in the CIA department. I am glad he is back in Washington where he belongs. We need a true Aggie president. No more political appointee (of course its all about the great mighty dollar). Anyway to get back to the main topic. Every time I saw Dr gates almost ten time during major gatherings. I would state the same story (Dr gates with all the million dollar construction going on how come we never think about rebuilding the corps dorms, the same answer we are doing major repairs, if you know what I mean) I could see in his eyes when he saw me here comes the loud mouth again talking about the corps dorms). I get sick and tired of all this new comers when they come to A & M they claim they are true blue aggies. The only true blue aggies are the ones that attented Texas a & m, Graduated or not. You can see that there was no love lost between me and Dr Gates. He was a short timer. This is the main reason why we need a true blue aggies in three position President and Athletic director and Football coach. Gig em Aggies.
Hey, I lived in dorm 11 and dorm 9 and the Corps dorms are fine as they are. They're probably not a "must see" for a visitor, unless they're in the prescence of a former Ag who can tell them all the stories and good bull in the dorms. My sophmore year dorm 9 had a major fire on the 3rd floor and to keep the band on the quad, most of the Artillery band moved into Dorm 11 with us. We had 4 cadets living in a set of juniors' room with their loft, all their army gear, computers, living on the floor.
Those dorms will always have a real traditional feel for me. I love telling my wife that they were built in 1939. And they're hardy enough to have withstood the D batteries and golfballs we used to launch across the quad with our Engineering 212 pingpong-ball launchers (I opted for the compressed-air ballistic approach of course).
They only thing new that they could have done without are the fire doors. After the fire, now the halls aren't as open as they used to be. Listen to me! I'm sitting around arguing with a guy from the class of '50 about ..."you know, back before the fire of '98" ... (in my best oldtimer voice) how we didn't have those new-fangled fire doors.
