Decision 2007

Abstract:
PLATFORM: The theme of my platform and my entire campaign is that I have the most experience with the issues. I've been working for the past year in Student Senate, as the student services chair. What my committee is focused on is Transportation Services, Dining Services, basketball ticket pulling and the future of campus....

8 white males. I think saying A&M has a diversity problem is an understatement.

Anybody could have run for president, no body is stopping them.

In fact a minority would do quite well in this field as they would stand out.

I wasn't aware that the most important issue was "being around Aggie life more than anyone else." I hope the SBP candidates think there are more important issues out there than themselves.

Is it really the job of the SBP to "embody everything that it means to be an Aggie", or is it to represent and the views of the student body and relay those views with influence to those that actually make decisions regarding our institution? Were it the former I could most confidently vote for any and every Gig'em Joe or Jill with the greatest expectations of success. Unfortunately what I see are Gig'em Joe's armed with a little bit of aggie pride and a lot of rhetoric. The Spirit of Aggieland? It's survived many a year without you, sirs. Waving a maroon flag on the street corner seems a bit of a waste for the person that SHOULD be the single student most influential and essential in the forming and maintaining of the institutions policies. I'm much more concerned with the fact that my tuition may go up $500 next semester than with the fact that, supposedly, we lack a "diverse" student population. Communication is important, but more so is the ability to influence policy. I'm tempted to vote for the man with the least aggie spirit in the hope that he's focused on matters more important than how far he can extend his thumb on game day.

That looks like lots of fun. When I was in college we didn't had so many fun activities.

I think you're defining 'diversity' as only race- and that's not what it means.
