And why do people need to announce their sexuality?

Holy crap! I just came from a wormhole and spoke with paul from 1958! He wanted me to relay this message:

"And why do people need to announce they are black?"

Does anyone on campus sponsor a National Family Day, where traditional families of either moms and dads or single parents are celebrated? If not, someone should look into it.

Actually, yes-- there is a thing called heterosexual pride week here on campus. Which is, I must say, a bit redundant considering that almost every representation of love and family we see is, well, that of heterosexuals. Traditional families are celebrated every single day, I don't know why the idea of letting gay students have just a few days to celebrate who they are always has to be met with such resistance.

Sounds good, Lee Ann! I'll gladly celebrate Coming Out Day
and Family Day. After all, our gay daughters and sons are
part of our traditional families. :)

That's the 1% of the 2 percenters that should enroll at t.u. so they can "keep Austin weird".
There is still hope for the remaining 1%

It is time for the small minded to come OUT! AND WAKE UP! I am class of '91 my husband/spouse/partner is class of '98. We want to have children. How is that not a family. Hell we already have an education fund set up for our future children. I hate to break the news to some of you but there is a lot more than 1% of the AGGIE family out there that identifies as gay or lesbian.

No one would come out at a conservative place like A&M anyway.

Really? REALLY? That's your statement? Wow, you're right. A higher system of education that hosts over 40,000 students from around the country and the world COULD POSSIBLY be an environment in which students would come out because it's in College Station.

True, most of A&M students are conservative, and we are located in a conservative part of the country, but your statement is incredibly ignorant and blatantly false. I have several friends who have come out while attending Texas A&M, and you might want to check out the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Aggies' webpage before making such a ridiculous statement.

You know what is funny, is all of you that are so afraid of gays like they are boogy-men. I'm straight. I'm obviously comfortable with myself and my sexuality. For those of you that keep trying to rag on them, you probably have gay tendencies and are trying to hide them. You know what pissed me off the most when I was on campus, it wasn't gay pride or coming out week, it was large pictures aroung campus of aborted fetuses during "Pro-Life Week". Now if that isn't pushing your views on others, I don't know what is. Quit being hypocrites, shut the hell up, and welcome to the present, because I know many of you would still like to have slaves. And that is sad.

I'm a single, straight man, and there is no problem with that. If I took out straight, and replaced it with gay, there is also nothing wrong with that.

The point is... why do people have such a big problem? Is it fear of the unknown? Is it based on religion? I call myself a religious person, but I'm not going to judge people. It's not my place and never will be.

This isn't the dark ages or even 1900. I mean in 1900 women couldn't even vote for goodness sake. Better yet... people believed the earth was the center of the universe and it was flat.... and people were executed for saying it wasn't back 400 years ago... WHOA CRAZY TALK!

Until the world ends when the sun dies out millions of years away, we are all here on this planet together, and no one person is going to change that, so why hate or discriminate seriously?

As far as marriage, I've always known it to be between a man and a woman, but that's only because I'm straight. Whatever same sex couples want (union, marriage, ?), I'm perfectly happy with it because who am I to deny what they want? I'm your average Joe, making a living, enjoying life.

This isn't like granting murderers and child molesters a free pass people.

Hopefully, 20 years from now, posts like this won't even have to be written.
