Is Texas A&M University liable even though the are conducted off campus?
As a partent who has funded the education of two students over the past 6 years, I would request that the student services fee committee(s) be more mindful when applying these fees other than for education purposes.(i.e. not social activities)
These fee increases do not go to the Fraternities and Soroities to throw parties. They have dues that pay for all of that. These fees pay for the administration in the greek life office. No Fraternity of Soroity will see a single dollar from this fee increase go into their pockets. Texas A&M is no more liable in this situation than if a member of the corps caused a similat accident. Before you go off and say things you should do your research and realize that this money is not going to be used on parties and realize that the largest student organization on campus needs more funding to operate.

you have no idea what the money is spent on. none of it is for social events.

The reason every student pays for it is simply because every student has access to it. Oh wait, but that would be thinking about this logically. Granted, I didn't join a frat when I was a student at TAMU (my choice), there were advertisements and recruiting done to get me there, which is totally acceptable.
I would bet good money that some money goes to the same thing for clubs on campus, but this article failed to mention it at all.
Besides, A&M is one of the few colleges in the nation where the Greek system has a very low percentage turnout. I would imagine that's why the article was written in the first place.
