"Do not engage in conflict with a person who has a weapon."
That's actually very sound advice. If someone is threatening you with a weapon, the smart thing is just to give them what they want. Your car or wallet isn't worth your life. You always want to choose the route that gets you out of the situation with the least risk of bodily harm, and that's usually cooperating with the person.

Um....if I had to give one piece of advice, it would be don't stop to use a blue call box when the guy trying to assault you is about 5 feet behind you.

This is hysterical. If the person has a weapon, there is conflict by default. I'm glad the Battalion and the police department are preaching awareness, but the last comment sounds an awful lot like victimhood. Given the number of aggravated sexual assaults students have recieved emails about this past year, female students in particular should feel wary when giving the criminal with the weapon what they want.
Does the campus police department have a strategy for the times vigilance fails? Is that something the administration prefers to talk about after the fact? Situational awareness and flight are the best ways to avoid conflict, but they do not protect you 100%.
