Do straight people have a month to celebrate straight day?

I dont have anything against gays, lesbians, bisexuals, or transgender, but seriously you are who you are..anyone who puts you down only makes themselves look arrogant, so why do you have to broadcast how gay you are with shirts, buttons, and a whole month? It's just like black history month. Do we have a white history month or a Mixed history month or any other month for that matter...ok you're gay..im straight whats the big deal?

Here's the deal Susannah, you're straight, and Im assumnig youre white as well because fo your comment about Black History Month. Blacks and homosexuals, transgender, etc., are all minorities in this country. We've been oppressed since the inception of this country. We have holidays and awareness month becuse we are trying to educate people about the inequality we encounter. We are not trying to tout our sexuality. We arent asking for more rights or more protection than what heterosexuals have, we are just asking for EQUAL rights. We want to be able to visit our loved one in the hospital when they are on their death bed, we want to be able to share in the finincial benefits heterosexual couples are privilged with. Eric Alva proudly served this country, and shed his blood for our freedoms. Why should a gay person, such as him-a soldier, be denied the same rights as you? Just like the saying goes, if you dont like gay marriage, dont get one.

Props to Connecticut, they legalized same sex marriage today! WHOOP!

White people are now the minority in Texas.

Can we have a White Day then?

Please.

Every month is white history month. Every week is straight pride week. I'm both and don't begrudge anybody a time during the year to celebrate their particular group.

You truly see outside of yourself and this comment is proof the world is progressing to something more livable for everyone. Thank you for your understanding and compassion for others.

Susannah, if it irks you, create an Aryan history month. Go for it.

While the comments are few, this exchange is encouraging. Yall get it. Celebrations of diversity are just that. Celebrations of sharing, remembrance of history, and most importantly - the fact that while we are all somehow different we can unify as one. We should thank and honor every veteran for their service and sacrifice for they ensure our freedoms to "be".

It doesn't irk me that I don't have day or a month or a year..or whatever..I do support our troops, every one gay or straight...black or white..but honestly..what rights are you not seeing as equal? How many more scholarships do minorities get than the majority? The answer is a lot more! Minorities get the most help with government spending. Look at the presidential debate right now, they are trying to get the minority vote..does that mean the gay vote? the hispanic vote? the black vote? the white vote? Because whites are now becoming the minority. Why do other people need to be educated on a certain group when that group is probably not willing to be educated on another group be it based on ethinicity, sexual orientation, or anything else. What are you trying to teach? That you are gay? Can i teach you that I am straight and i may not have all the rights as someone else.

Susannah,
If you are asking your question seriously, I'll be more than happy to answer. GLBT people are discriminated against every day. Straight people can tell anyone that they are straight, or who they are dating with little to no fear of repercussions, whereas if a glbt person does the same, they can be subject to ostracism, being fired, or in the case of the military, even jailed. Do you find this fair? If you think that scholarships are only awarded to minorities, then you are not paying attention. Straight, white people, like your parents make more in the workplace than any minority in this country, and thats fact. We are fighting to have equality in pay, equality in relationships, and equality in life. We are teaching that it doesn't matter WHAT makes you different, that everyone should be free to express their differences, without fear of repercussions, or in the case of Michael Shepard, even death. We know what it means to be straight, most of were raised that way, raised with certain gender roles and identities thrust upon us. We are not trying to make you gay, we are trying to explain that there are people who refuse to respect us, and until they do, we will not be silent. I hope that you are truly looking for answers rather than just spreading hatred. What people like Eric Alva have done for the Glbt community is very similar to what Martin Luther King, Jr did for the Civil Rights movement. They are a voice in the dark, rallying people to create change towards a brighter tomorrow.

The armed service already has to have separate facilities between male and females (understandably so).

So then we would need straight male quarters, gay male quarters, straight female quarters, and gay female quarters? Separate showers? I think you can see an issue here.

I have nothing against gays, one of my good friends is openly gay. And i'm all for equal rights in most situations - but this is not one of them.

If I'm at war bunkering down in a fox hole, I want to be with some guy who is telling me about his gf back home - not how the Sargent has a nice ass. I'm not talking 'homophobe' either; but its same concept that I wouldn't personally room/live with someone who is gay.

Jenn

lolwut,
Why not? Are you afraid that simply because they are gay they will hit on you? Do you hit on every girl you speak to, or are in a room with? Do you think that simply because someone is gay, they aren't as strong or able to fight? Why do you want to be with someone telling you about his gf back home, rather than someone telling you how scared they are they won't make it back to their life partner? If they aren't trying to get in your pants, who are you to say that they don't deserve to love, and be loved in return? I'm not comfortable when there are more than 3 people in the aisle at the grocery store, but I don't make them open up a second, less crowded grocery store. I just buy what I need(or do my job) and leave. And your gay sargeant probably doesn't want to hear in the foxhole how nice of a rack your gf has, either.

why did my wife get expelled yes expelled when she wore a Straight Pride t-shirt in school while the guy sitting next to her with a Gay Pride t-shirt had nothing done to him? Or if someone wears a White Power t-shirt they're deemed a racist, but if someone wears a Black or Brown Pride t-shirt they're expressing their view? Don't be hypocritical. If you're going to allow a Black History month, allow a white history month. If you're going to allow these GLBT speakers then allow someone to come in and talk strictly about being straight. Don't pick and choose what you want to be deemed appropriate and call any other viewpoint than your own oppressive, racist, ect...

Im pretty sure there are plenty of speakers that come to campus each week that speak out against homosexuality, therefore promoting heterosexuality. Everyday is sttraight day- by having rights to get married, adopt, see loved ones on their deathbed, etc.

I believe the bible beaters do a great job of speaking up for breeders.

Why did your wife get expelled for wearing a t shirt, jared? From which school was she expelled? Because I can't think of a single school that would expell someone for that.

Jared

posted 10/11/08 @ 4:41 PM CST

My wife was expelled because her Straight Pride t-shirt was deemed hate speech. It took a lawyer and a call to the local media to get her reinstated to her high school. It happened in Phoenix, AZ.

Gay Aggie, you're pretty sure? No definitive examples? Also, if you're going to call straight people breeders, don't get upset when we use the term fag. The only difference is I can get in trouble for saying fag while you will not for saying breeder there's your equality...or rather inequality.

Diversity divides. Can anyone tell me how I benifit from uniting with my adversaries? What if I actually stand for something? Should I forfeit my belief value system for the sake of others?

We are not all the same. If we were there would be no diversity.

What is it you really want? Certainly a diversity of thought and beliefs is not one of them.

What the diversity/mulitcultural agenda wants is to destroy whitey and white christians. It destroyed Pagans hundreds of yrears ago.

I want others to retain their own identity, while I retain my own identity. If we are not different then how is there diversity?

With the current "diversity" trend we become a homogenous muddle of sludge, each fighting in chaos for identity.

What the current "diversity" trend desires is diversity of appearance yet they demand homogenaity of thought and culture. We will have neither if we implement their nefarious and destructive schemes.

If you do not agree with the multicults/diversity agenda then you are branded as a "racist", a "white surpremist" or a "neo-nazi"!

My vision of true diversity is not just visual imagery of a hodge-podge or mish-mash of faces, but of diverse peoples, diverse cultures, diverse values, and diverse nations.

At TAMU there is no true diversity. Where are the white organizations? The white clubs? Where are the German Societies, the Irish Heritage organizations, the Czech Heritage groups? Are there no Germans, Irish or Czechs at TAMU, much less Scottish, Swedish, Anglo or Norwegian?

What you have at TAMU is a agenda of the celebrated minorities as well as the celebrated deviants and abnormalities.
