Aggies coordinate 'watermelon yell' for Wednesday's UT basketball game
Abstract:
As the men's basketball game against the University of Texas approaches, four Texas A&M students, including junior agriculture communications major Chris Shepperd and freshmen industrial engineering major Jose Velez, are coordinating to implement a temporary yell....

Hey, how about this one ... WE GOT SPIRIT, YES WE DO ... oh, wait. That sounds so high school, just like the stupid Watermelon cheer. I thought we had YELL Leaders.
I think you missed the point... what's it like being so sour and pessimistic all the time?

This is too juvenile for words!
This proves that what happens on TexAgs.com should STAY on TexAgs.com.

What idiot thought of this stupid junior high CHEER? This is below even the mindless level of TexAgs.com members.

Please don't. Our beloved Aggie yells certainly aren't poetry, but that watermelon one is just plain stupid.

I am as Old Army as you can get and I hate high school harry "cheers" but that is missing the point of this whole thing. If a win is secured the watermellon yell would be an in your face to the mouthy sip coach. I say- good bull!
I just hope we get the opportunity to do the yell!

Just heard this on the game. This was awesome. I loved hearing that dumb joke thrown back in Barnes' face. Way to go Students! Good Show!

you guys are missing the point.
Barnes suggested we do that yell last year when he was irritated after a bad loss. Basically the students got to him last year and he showed his frustration in the postgame.
So they fans took his suggestion, basically to mock him when we kicked their arse again. It was well done and well received. Though Barnes was probably partially pissed off by it, he was also probably laughing inside. As I was from watching the Ags whip them again.

CONGRATS AGS on a well played game, not much else to say because we dominated almost every facet of the game.
I do want to say thank you to the students for coming out in full force and for changing it up with the "watermelon yell." old ags may not like it, but oh well, how many of them even went to more than 4 basketball games? I was there for forgettable 2004 season when we did not win a single conference game and student participation was close to zero.
This is a new era for Aggie Basketball and for it to thrive it will take continued creativity from our students to make it a big deal so that current
students come back as former students for games and carry on the tradition to future generations. Thank you and keep up the good work and enthusiasm.
Whoop! Howdy! Gig'em! This gets me excited!

it was a joke (and it turned out awesome, by the way) like a haha funny joke to push it back in rick barnes face for being a jerk to us last year. i'm sorry to you closed minded people if you don't have a sense of humor. it's not like it's going to be a tradition or anything, that was explicit in the statement of the guys that organized it. and it's time we brought heckling back into reed.

I am old Army and I approve this yell. Congrats to New Army for pulling it off. I am normally not a fan of creating traditions, but this yell needs to stay in our repetoire.

I think it was good bull based on what the t.u. coach said last year!

I'm sure Rick Barnes was so hurt and shamed by this "yell" that he cried himself to sleep that night.
Oh wait, he's making $2 million per year as head of a program that boasts last year's first overall pick, and oh, a higher ranking in the polls than A&M. I think somehow that a guy of his caliber couldn't care less about what nonsense we shout at him.
By doing this "yell", we didn't "stick it to the t-sip coach" or anything like that. We just proved his point, really.
