Good to know we're covering the important, newsworthy material here in Aggieland. I suppose next we'll front-page an article from the Onion.

It's summer in College Station and this is actually a subject of great interest for many (and quite an impressive piece of artwork to boot). Lighten up. Go pick up an Eagle, Houston Chronicle, Austin American Statesman or Dallas Morning News either today and tomorrow and tell me if they don't have similar treatment in their entertainment sections.

Though Batman might not be news, it is current with the new film being released. There is no rule saying you can't put an opinion piece in the paper, even as the biggest story. During the summer, there is not exactly a lot of cutting edge news in College Station other than the occasional car wreck. Add to that the fact that McCain/Obama most likely don't give interviews to college papers and you are left with a lot of white space to fill.

Its summer time. Have fun. Let loose. Be happy.

The news will be there when it needs to be (hopefully) but for now just be glad there is no scandal, or problem going on (that can be reported effectively on).

My response to most people complaining that any newspaper is lacking is, "Well if you don't like it, don't complain, help. Pay attention and report potential stories. Or even better, become a reporter yourself. It's not as easy as it looks."

I'm at a loss for words. I can't get past the "last piss" phrase to read further. I am so offended by this vulgarism. Will the Batt next have an "f-bomb" featured in its front page story? Badly done. I'm aware the journalism department is no longer a part of our campus, has all jounalistic decorum left as well? If I were a visitng parent with no knowlege of the honor associated with being an Aggie I would have grave concerns sending my son or daughter here. As a former student and parent of two cadets, I am highly offended and saddened by the decline in values so blatantly displayed as an embarrassment to all Aggies present and future. All it takes for evil to flourish is for good men to remain silent. I will not let my Aggieland become like "other" schools by allowing something like this casual remark to pass. Yes, we all call sophomores "piss heads" but I don't think anyone really thinks about the act...there is no doubt as to the reference in the offensive phrase. You are being educated at one of the finest universities in the nation, surely you can find a better choice of words.

As I understand it, this phrase is used in a quote from the film, and is not the word choice of the writer. Tell me if I'm wrong, but that's how it reads. As a current student and child of two Aggies, I'm highly offended and saddened that you don't have something better to do than huff and puff over a summer article in the Batt.

I might be blind, but where does it say "last piss" in the article?

And no matter what The Batt prints, there will always be people who criticize. It's a student newspaper, in the summer, and one of the biggest movies of the year is coming out tonight. I think it is a legitimate topic.

And to Kathleen, it seems like you are drawing an arbitrary line when it comes determining if a word is offensive or not. You might not think about the word when calling someone a "piss head," but what does it really mean? It still stems from a derogatory phrase, whether or not it still retains its original meaning. And how exactly are you going to "not let [your] Aggieland become like 'other' schools?"

*Edit*

I didn't realize there were two articles. "Piss" is right there in the opening paragraph.

Come on, it's a university newspaper, and a movie release is news, so what.
What I wouldn't agree is about Batman. The only good thing about Batman are his villains. If you think the Joker is a flat character, you clearly have not read the best Batman stories. Get the Killing Joke. :P
