Welcome, incoming students

Howdy Ags! Let me be one of the first to welcome you to Aggieland, I hope you enjoy all the seminars, group activities and meals that your New Student Conference provides. And don't worry, class registration isn't as hard as it seems!
The Battalion, as an extension of Texas A&M Student Media, is here to serve you. But we are also here to give you a voice. Look at the top of this page - we are the independent student voice of Texas A&M. We strive to be independent, we strive to be accurate and fair, and we strive to provide a forum for discussion for everything that's important to you as a student and as an Aggie.
Secondly, welcome to college. Over the next few months, you will receive tons of advice from all kinds of people, so let me tell you a few things I've learned since walking into my New Student Conference back in 2004: Keep all your quarters for laundry, you'd be surprised how many you'll use. Try to not spend too much time on Facebook or TexAgs, nothing beats spending time with your friends. Get involved with a student organization, you won't regret it. And finally, go outside your comfort zone: try a restaurant that serves a type of food you've never had before, take a class on something that has nothing to do with your major, befriend an international student and learn from people who believe and think differently than you do.
I want to encourage you to get to know College Station, get to know your fellow Aggies, and get to know The Batt. We're always looking for writers, photographers, and designers, so don't hesitate to apply. You are the next generation of Aggies and you have a right to speak out, so let your voices be heard - whether you write for The Battalion or just write a mail call.
Thanks and Gig'em,
