Thursday's game against Tennessee was all about pitching, as Aggie junior Amanda Scarborough threw 12 strikeouts and held the Lady Vols scoreless through six innings. But Scarborough's feat was bested by Abbott, who pitched her 23rd no-hitter with 16 strikeouts, putting her on top for the single-season strikeout record.
In the top of the seventh inning, Tennessee scored twice to best the Aggies 2-0. Kenora Posey, who made her way to third base on a steal and a ground-out, scored when India Chiles singled off of Scarborough. Lillian Hammond, who pinch-ran for Chiles, scored the Tennessee's insurance run when three straight Tennessee batters hit singles.
A&M's last chance to score was snuffed out in the bottom of the seventh inning when Jami Lobpries flew out to first base and Abbott struck out Alex Reynolds and Macie Morrow.
Though the Aggie's defense rarely let up, the A&M offense struggled the entire game, not able to manage a single hit off of Abbott, who struck out every batter on A&M's line-up at least once.
Texas A&M is scheduled to play Saturday against Baylor, who lost 2-1 Thursday night to first-seeded Arizona.
