It is true: all this is speculative. Even if the previous scenarios were enacted (unlikely given the political theatre of the debt ceiling negotiations) the outcomes might be different than the CBO projects — there are too many factors to consider.

Nevertheless, the MGI and CBO reports contain good information. They are indicators that, when balancing our needs to deleverage and contribute to the growing economy, levelheaded approaches — though difficult to find — can, and must, be taken.

Now to inform the politicians: Keep calm and carry on.
