Welcome to Women's Issues Wednesday

I'm Jennifer, and I'm going to be your women's issues and interests blogger. The Battalion has never had a blog solely devoted to all things woman, so I feel very privileged to be the first writer on the subject.

What are women's issues? That's a complicated question that I've yet to find one answer to, despite taking multiple women's studies courses. Here, however, I'm going to define them as anything involving women in society, women's bodies, interests and anything men want to know about women.

Men can read this too.

You read me right. This blog isn't only for women; it's perfectly fine for men to be interested in these kinds of things. In fact, it's wonderful, and I don't know any woman who wouldn't swoon over a man who cares about equality in the workplace, or ending negative body image in the media, which is probably the reason for this masterpiece.

Every Wednesday, I'll be covering a different topic, ranging from sexism in advertising, to bikini waxing and relationships, to what's hot on the runway (and what's not). Or better yet, why you shouldn't pay attention to the runway. Or the fashion world. Like ever.

I hope this blog brings more awareness to women's issues while making more people comfortable with various social taboos involving women.

Why I'm doing this.

Why? Because frankly, sexism isn't over yet, and neither is inequality. It turns out that having the vote and being free of the kitchen wasn't the end-all to the problem. While it certainly helped, there still remains much work to be done. If you don't believe me, watch an Axe commercial.

I also hope this blog aids in answering the bodily questions you were always too scared to ask your mother. Or how to deal when you're OB/GYN is super creepy, and what to say to the guy who makes fun of Pinterest and PMS simultaneously. All of that and then some will be discussed.

Basically, I'm Ms. Frizzle, and the Magic School Bus is about to take a pro-longed field trip into the mind and body of a woman. I hope you choose to tag along.

Next week…
