The Texas A&M Department of Mathematics will be giving students an opportunity to showcase the left sides of their brains with a month full of brain-teasers.
April is Math Awareness Month, and the math department is putting on several activities as a part of this month. The theme for this year's Math Awareness Month is "Mathematics and the Brain."
WEDNESDAY: A lecture, "Bases, Braids and Beyond," geared toward advanced mathematics students, will be given at 4 p.m. in Blocker 120.
APRIL 16: Students enrolled in second-semester calculus are invited to test their skills and compete for prizes in an Integral Bee at 7 p.m. in Blocker 158.
APRIL 24: Professor Rob Bennedetto of Amherst College will present a lecture, "The ABC Conjecture and Introduction," at 7:30 p.m. in Blocker 158.
APRIL 28: A math mini-fair, which will include various lectures, will take place in Blocker 120. Professor Greg Berkolaiko will present a lecture, "Betting Systems: How Not to Lose Your Money in Gambling," from 11:15 a.m. to noon. Professor Jay Walton will present his lecture, "From Stripes on a Tiger to Thoughts in the Brain: Modeling Complex Patterns and Nature," from 12:30 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.
