A student was arrested Sunday morning after a major vehicle accident on Harvey Mitchell Parkway near West Luther, according to a news release from the College Station Police Department.
CSPD and fire personnel responded to the scene at 3:22 a.m. and found a Toyota Tundra on its roof in a ditch in the outside southbound lane and a Mercury sedan in a ditch on the west side of the road.
Preliminary investigations showed that the Mercury, driven by Michelle Briggs of College Station, was struck in the rear by the Toyota driven by Aaron Z. Somers, a senior construction science major.
Somers, a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, attended the annual Jungle Crush party at the fraternity house located on 985 West Luther Street Saturday night.
Briggs was found unconscious and was removed from the car by the fire department. She was transported to College Station Medical Center with serious injuries.
All lanes of Harvey Mitchell Parkway between West Luther and Holleman were closed until late morning.
Somers was not injured. He was arrested and charged with intoxication assault, a third degree felony that carries a maximum punishment of 10 years in jail and a $10,000 fine.
Officials confirmed that Somers is being held at the Brazos County Jail. The fraternity declined to comment.
