After one week in the College Station Medical Center, Michelle Briggs, a 36-year-old mother and student at Prairie View A&M, died Saturday.
Family members planned to take Briggs off life support, KBTX-TV reported, but her heart stopped beating at 4:45 a.m.
Rhonda Seaton, the public information officer for the College Station Police Department, confirmed Briggs' death.
Briggs' injuries were sustained during an accident Oct. 21 on Harvey Mitchell Parkway near West Luther Street. Her vehicle was struck from behind by a Toyota Tundra driven by Aaron Z. Somers, a senior construction science major.
Emergency crews pulled Briggs from her Mercury sedan around 3 a.m. She was not breathing and did not have a pulse.
Somers was charged with intoxicated assault. Prior to the accident, Somers attended Sigma Alpha Epsilon's Jungle Crush party at the fraternity house on West Luther Street.
As a result of Briggs's death, the Brazos County District Attorney could upgrade Somers's original charge of intoxicated assault.
Funeral services for Briggs will be in New Orleans, La., at the Greater Ebeneezer Baptist Church. The time is pending.
