HOUSTON - The state has awarded more than $80 million in grants to replace or retrofit engines with pollution reduction technology as it tries to bring air quality into compliance with federal mandates in some major cities, Gov. Rick Perry said Wednesday.

Businesses, individuals and governmental organizations will share the grants, part of the Texas Emissions Reduction Plan, to replace old diesel engines or retrofit engines and other equipment with updated technology.
