Perry appoints Regents

Gov. Rick Perry appointed two Texas A&M former students and one Texas Tech graduate to the A&M University System Board of Regents Friday, according to a news release. Bill Jones, Class of 1981 and Austin resident, is a partner at Vinson and Elkins LLP and a member of the American Bar Association, Texas Bar Association and State Bar of Texas. While a student, Jones was in the Ross Volunteer Honor Guard and served as First Brigade commander in the Corps of Cadets. He is being reappointed to the position. Phil Adams, Class of 1970 and Bryan resident, is the owner of Phil Adams Company, which provides insurance products and services throughout Texas. He played football for the Aggies in the 1960s. Adams served as chairman for the Board of Regents from 2001 to 2007.

Jim Schwertner, an Austin resident, is president and CEO of Schwertner Farms Inc. He is chairman of Schwertner State Bank and the Seton Williamson Foundation, director of the Texas Beef Council and past chairman of the Texas Cattle Feeders Association. He graduated from Texas Tech in 1974.
