A memorial starting at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Rudder Auditorium will honor the life of Norman Borlaug, a Nobel prize-winning researcher and distinguished professor of agriculture at Texas A&M University. Borlaug's medals, including his 1970 Nobel Peace Prize, will be displayed from 9:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Rudder Tower.

Borlaug, who died Sept. 12 at the age of 95, is often called the father of the Green Revolution for his development of high-yield, disease-resistant strains of wheat to fight hunger and famine in impoverished countries. Gov. Rick Perry has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff on Tuesday in Borlaug's honor.

"He was somebody who lived a life of freedom and peace and tried to spread that throughout the world, and the world acknowledges that," said A&M AgriLife Media Relations Manager Kathleen Phillips. "When they talk about fighting hunger in the world his name will come up, and the fact that he was at Texas A&M is something that we can be proud of."
