Texas A&M junior basketball player Joseph Jones announced today that he has entered his name into the 2007 NBA draft, going against a previous statement by Jones saying he was going to stay at A&M for his senior year.

Jones did say it is still possible for him to return to A&M next year because he has not hired an agent.

"I just want to test the water and see how I can compete against the best players in the world," Jones said.

Speculation about Jones's reasons for declaring include the recent head coaching change at Texas A&M, when previous coach Billy Gillispie left A&M for the University of Kentucky. A&M hired former Witchita State head coach Mark Turgeon to replace Gillispie.

Jones must withdraw his name from the draft by June 18 if he wants to stay at A&M. The draft will be held on June 28.
