Former student creates teacher award

Rudy Dismuke, Class of 1978, endowed a $30,000 teaching excellence award in honor of his former chemical engineering professor, Kenneth Hall.

Each year, by a majority vote of the senior chemical engineering students, one faculty member will be granted the award based on teaching effectiveness, innovation, curriculum development and student service.

Dismuke is an exploration commercial adviser at Exxon Mobil and said Hall's teaching inspired his interest in thermodynamics, which led to his career in the oil and gas industry. Exxon Mobil will contribute matching funds to the gift, which has been set up through the Texas A&M Foundation.

Hall is a regent's professor within Department of Chemical Engineering, and is the Jack E. and Frances Brown Chairman in Engineering. As associate director of the Texas Engineering Experiment Station, Hall supervises interdisciplinary research projects while overseeing TEES centers and institutes.
