A&M associate professor arrested for possession of child pornography

Associate professor Douglas Dohrman turned himself into the Texas A&M University Police Department on Thursday for charges of possession of child pornography. Dohrman teaches in the neuroscience and therapeutics department for the College of Medicine. He faces seven separate counts of possession of child pornography - third degree felonies punishable by between two and 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000, according to the Bryan/College-Station Eagle. His bail was set at $35,000. According to Detective Travis Lively, Dohrman turned himself in as a result of a Dec. 3rd search warrant of his office, which recovered child pornography on the premises, and an ensuing Jan. 27th arrest warrant. Authorities were notified by the University after a staff member became aware there was child pornography being shared over the network on Dohrman's iTunes, Lively said. It is unclear how long the files had been shared by Dohrman over the network at the Reynolds Medical Building. "I do not believe that Dohrman was aware that he was sharing the contents of his files over the network," Lively said. "Specifically, there were three movies and four photographs that were recovered," Lively said. Each item of child pornography results in a separate count.
