COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) - Texas A&M linebacker Ta Ta Thompson, who started one game last season as a true freshman, has withdrawn from school for personal reasons, coach Dennis Franchione said Tuesday. ' 'Ta Ta is a fine young man who did everything we asked of him,'' Franchione said. ''It's unfortunate that he feels he needs to give up his opportunities at Texas A&M to deal with some things going on in his life.''
Thompson, from Garland, had 20 solo tackles and 10 assists, two tackles for losses and one quarterback sack.
Franchione said linebacker Lamar Mitchell, defensive lineman Tate Pittman and wide receiver Anthony Wright also left school for personal reasons. Offensive linemen Brandon Flanagan and Quinten Coleman and linebacker Kelvin Flood were academic casualties.
