Texas A&M played the equivalent of two games in a three-and-a-half hour duel at Sam Houston State Wednesday.
After tying the game at 1-1 in the seventh inning, the Aggies took the Bearkats through 14 innings before winning 2-1.
"After you battle 14 innings it's just great to come away with a win," A&M Head Coach Jo Evans told AggieAthletics.com.
Bearkats' senior pitcher Brandi Crnkovic threw a career-high 14 innings, allowing nine hits and two runs while striking out seven and allowing three walks.
Sam Houston fell to 4-1 in 2009 while A&M improved to 4-1.
The Bearkats scored first in the third inning. After sophomore infielder Hailey Wiginton hit a triple into deep centerfield, sophomore Alex Survant hit a single to right field to score Wiginton.
The Aggies struggled at the plate, failing to reach base in the third through sixth innings.
Down by one in the top of the seventh, the Aggies were in a score-or-lose situation. With one out, senior outfielder Holly Ridley hit a homerun over the left field fence to tie the game.
The Bearkats went hitless in the bottom of the seventh with a strike out, a fly out, and a ground out to send the game into extra innings.
Both teams went scoreless in the next six innings.
The Aggies broke through in the top of the 14th inning. Senior catcher Erin Glasco broke the silence with a double that scored junior infielder Alex Reynolds from first base.
Sophomore pitcher Rhi Kliesing, who threw the entire game, closed the door on the Bearkats in the bottom of the inning.
"I was proud of Rhi," Evans said. "She was able to throw strikes and get huge outs."
