After surrendering an early run to the Rice Owls in the first inning, it looked as though the Texas A&M Aggies would be able to answer in a big way.
Instead, they failed and completely lost momentum. The Aggies loaded the bases in the bottom of the first on two walks and a hit with nobody out. The fourth batter, catcher Craig Stinson, struck out swinging for the first out.
The next batter, Luke Anders, hit a ground ball to second base and beat the throw to first which would have scored two runs and kept the inning alive, but he was called out because of interference at second base by Blake Stouffer.
A&M head coach Rob Childress argued the call flamboyantly but to no avail.
Neither team scored in the second, but Rice first baseman led off the third inning with a home run to left field to make the score 2-0.
That is where it stands now, but Rice is threatening again in the fourth. The bases are loaded with no outs.
Rice leads the series 1-0 and the game 2-0 from Reckling Park in Houston.
