Twelve Texas A&M volleyball players played Tuesday in a strong three-game sweep of Sam Houston State 30-15, 30-17, 30-17. The victory improved A&M to 15-6 on the season while the Bearkats droped to 9-11.

"I wanted it to be a total team effort", said A&M Head Coach Laurie Corbelli. "I knew that the players that don't always start on our court and haven't been on the court much are still really great players."

The Aggies never trailed in the match, as SHSU managed to tie the match only five times with all ties coming within the first few points of each game.

In game one, A&M jumped out to a 12-4 lead that set the tone for the remainder of the match. Senior Kelly Stanton and sophomore Mary Batis each had four kills in the frame.

In the second game, Sam Houston briefly got to within four points before sophomore Kristen Schevikhoven's serve led A&M on a 9-0 run to pull away at 21-8. The Aggies closed out game two by racking up 18 points on 28 opportunities.

A&M had no trouble pulling away in the final game, going on an 8-0 run early behind the serve of junior Darla Donaldson.

Donaldson, along with freshman Breanna Lewis and sophomores Jenny Banse and Jola Kelner each had action off the bench. Banse had a career-high performance with 10 digs.

"I knew we probably wouldn't skip a beat because they play a lot in practice in that lineup," Corbelli said.

Stanton tied a career-high by recording four service aces. Batis achieved a double-double with 15 kills and 13 digs. A&M held the Bearkats to a .034 hitting percentage.
