For a program accustomed to mediocrity, the Colorado basketball team has been turning heads after its 15-4 start to the season.
This week's rankings have the Buffaloes in the AP Top 25 for the first time since the 1996-1997 season. With a roster that includes ten seniors, their success has been no surprise to head coach Ricardo Patton.
"When you have guys that have gone through it, then it gives you a better chance," Patton said.
Texas A&M head coach Billy Gillispie is well aware of sophomore guard Richard Roby's 21 points per game in conference play, and repeatedly recognized Roby's ability Monday.
"They've got an NBA player in Roby," Gillispie said. "He can really shoot the three and get it to the basket because of his athletic ability and size."
A&M's offensive answer to Roby comes in the form of sophomore Joseph Jones. Coming off a 31-point performance, Patton had nothing but praise for the Aggies' leading rebounder and scorer.
"He's just a man among boys," Patton said. "He does a good job on both ends of the floor. He causes some match-up problems for anybody that doesn't bring their hard hat to play against him."
The game is 6 p.m. Wednesday at Reed Arena.
