The women's and men's A&M swimming and diving teams swam a combined three meets during the weekend, with results varying at each meet.

The women opened the weekend falling 169-131 to No. 3 Texas in College Station on Friday.

In front of a near-capacity Student Rec Center Natatorium, both teams posted season-best times and kept the score close in the diving events.

The Aggies started the meet with a second place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The relay team of Latone Megan, Alia Atkinson, Triin Aljand and Christine Marshall finished .01 seconds behind the Longhorns.

Atkinson won two of her three events, capturing the most wins of any Aggie at the meet. The junior won both the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke events. She is undefeated in those events in 2008-2009.

Sophomore transfer diver Jaele Patrick won one of the two diving events, claiming first place in the one-meter springboard category with a score of 308.63.

Patrick also scored the second best three-meter springboard score in Aggie history with a score of 339.75, which earned her second place behind Texas diver Jessica Livingston by four points.

The Aggies had wins from Aljand and junior Emily Neal in the 50-yard freestyle and 200-yard backstroke respectively.

"Many of our girls up and down the roster came ready to race today," said women's Head Coach Steve Bultman. "I'm proud of my team, we're right where we need to be at this point in the season."

The Aggie women returned to the pool Saturday with the men's team to take on Louisiana State.

The men's team gave the No. 18 ranked Tigers a tight meet, capturing both relays and diving events, but fell in the end 155-145.

Sophomore swimmer Balazs Makany, a member of the Hungarian Olympic team, claimed first place in both the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle events with times of 45.02 and 1:39.66 respectively.

"Balazs is a tough, not-afraid-of-anything type of guy with a great work ethic," said men's Head Coach Jay Holmes. "We need a bunch more Balazs Makanys."

The Aggies also had wins from junior Casey Strange in the 50-yard freestyle, junior Nathan Lavery in a debut 100-yard breaststroke swim and two wins from diver Eric Sehn.

The women's team defeated the Tigers 182-110 in a Senior Day meet.

The Aggies, now 8-1 in dual meets, claimed 14 of the 16 events including sweeps of both relays and both diving events.

The No. 8 ranked squad posted wins from a number of swimmers, including freshmen Rita Medrano in the 200-yard butterfly and Lauren Clifford in the 200-yard individual medley.
