After enjoying the article titled "Blunt Perspective," I felt the need to voice my opinion on the University police's "War on Drugs," or what is now known as their "Skirmish against Marijuana." Recently, University police made a bust at my residence hall. I know this because I was woken at 11:30 p.m. to a formerly locked, now wide open, door and two police officers. I was then forced into the hall for questioning. I was soon aware that they suspected me of smoking marijuana. After refusing multiple requests to search my room, I was allowed to go back to bed. The five officers present were there for about five hours. This seems like a waste of not only the police officers' time, but a waste of the average students' tuition as well. I ask the same question that the author does, is this really worth it? I feel the time they spend trying to bust students could be better spent actually protecting us. Their blatant disregard for my rights, as well as those in my dorm, should serve as a red flag. A few college students experimenting with marijuana are a top priority? Come on.
